Today, it was socks
Somewhere in the messy middle, we get comfortable with there always being SOMETHING… it’s always something, and that “never a dull moment” saying is so true. But today, it was socks. Kid 2 got up, albeit later than we hope for on a day to day basis, but nonetheless she got up and stumbled her way to readiness. Meanwhile, kid 1 did not get up. For 45 min. Finally, when kid 2 got up, he managed to trudge through his routine of potty, teeth brushing, allergy meds, and then…. It happened. The moment he finished putting on his clothes and it was time for the socks, we had a TIME, y’all. Of course his NORMAL socks were all dirty. So we pivoted to the backups that are backups on purpose. They are different, and sometimes for my highly sensitive Kid 1, change is hard. This was 10 min of hard. After giving him choices to help him feel empowered to find a solution for himself, he decided on a different pair of socks and a different pair of shoes that were more comfortable for him. While we were 15 min late, he did a lot of growing in that tiny moment. And I’m so proud of him for that. (TBH… I’m proud of me too for not losing my shiz before 8am!)
